What do immigration attorneys actually do? I am planning on applying for law school soon, and I think I want to go into immigration law. The problem is, I have an idea in my head of what an immigration attorney does all day, but that might not necessarily be the reality of the job. Are there any immigration attorneys who can tell me how they spend their day?
What does attorneys look for when hiring a newly grad paralegal? I'm 33 years old and I decided to go back to get my paralegal degree. I live in Illinois and I don't have any experience in this field, but I will be willing to orientate to the position. Should I continue to get my bachelors degree or should I just focus on the paralegal certificate? Are degrees from online programs acceptable for the lawfirms in Illinois? What's the best thing for me to do? Please only serious attorneys or professional within a law firm reply! Thanks..
Are there attorneys who can erase items from your driving history? There are attorneys which can fix your credit history from the three credit reporting companies but are there attorneys that can help erase items from your driving record? I have two accidents reported in my Texas driving history of which, only one am I responsible for. The other one is not my fault but is tagged as "At fault" which is affecting my auto insurance premium rates. How can I get these negative items off of the history or at least have them neutralized so they don't negatively impact.
What is the average life expectancy of defense attorneys? On average, do defense attorneys have a shorter life expectancy than people in other career paths? I have read that due to the long hours and guilt associated with sometimes having to defend those who are clearly guilty, defense attorneys do not live very long.
Why am I seeing job postings where some paralegals are making more than associate attorneys? When looking at legal job postings, I see a lot of posts for paralegals. Some of the salaries are more than associate attorneys I know are making. Some are even more than senior lawyers I know make at small law firms, and definitely more than a lot of solo attorney I know. Why is this? Are paralegals becoming more valuable than attorneys to some companies? Do you think this profession will continue to grow and evolve? Will they become more valuable and make more money? Also I am talking "real" paralegal positions here, not legal assistant jobs or legal secretaries.
is attorneys fees considered a non tax federal debt? i have a outstanding attorney bill that i have not paid off yet and it says for the stimulus rebate that if you have any out standing non tax federal debts they will use that money to pay on that. How come adoption agencies and attorneys are allowed to profit from adoption? I was talking with my Mom and she made the point that it is illegal to for a organ donor to profit from donating their organ but doctors are allowed to make hundreds of thousands of dollars. She then said that adoption is basically the same way as an organ donation. She said that is the organ donor or natural mother isn't allowed to profit from the procedure than the doctors, adoption agency, and attorneys shouldn't be allowed to profit either. What do you think? With adoption and organ donors nobody should profit because without a donor or natural mother their would be no product. Sorry I am trying to put it in language that will not offend anybody.
Do sellers and/or their attorneys need to be present for a home closing? We are closing on a home this week and just found out that the seller and their attorneys will not be present at the closing, it's just going to be us and our attorney. Is that common, is something wrong with this, should we be worried about something? Our lawyer didn't really think this is a problem, but my husband and I aren't too thrilled about this, because this is our first home purchase and we imagined the closing to be with the seller and their attorney. I would apprecite any insight to help me ease my mind before we jump into the 'biggest deal' of our lives so far. Thanks in advance.

What are your personal feelings towards defense lawyers/attorneys? Frankly, my personal feelings towards them are arrogant, pompous jerks who make way too much money than they deserve and because, regardless of what the constitution says about innocent until proven guilty which I wish we could change, they defend these low life scum or the earth individuals and help them get away with whatever crime they committed for all the wrong reasons! Do you agree or have similar feelings towards them or are you indifferent about the way defense attorneys/lawyers are?
How do attorneys and judges pick their jurors? I heard attorneys try to go for people who aren't too sharp and are easily persuaded, and judges go for people who are somewhat highly educated but don't know too much about a case. So, they have to compromise and find jurors who are educated but don't know anything about a particular case at hand. For instance, in a tobacco (health) case, they'll try to find a college graduate who has a degree in communications or engineering, which is pretty much irrelevant to health and tobacco.
How do lawyers gain experience and become higher level attorneys if junior lawyer's jobs are being outsourced? I am having a huge dilemma about this and am not understanding the future of the legal profession in the United States. Law firms are increasingly giving the work usually assigned to junior associates to the legal process outsourcing industry abroad. However, this is where law school graduates begin their careers. How is a law firm supposed to get experienced attorneys if this grunt work assigned to junior associates is being shipped overseas?

How much are attorneys to blame for our health care "crisis"? Everyone is arguing over whether we should or should not have universal health care. The one thing that's forgotten about in this heated debate is the question of just how much are ambulance chasers and malpractice attorneys to blame? Has their greed driven malpractice insurance rates to unsustainable levels? How much do you think this factors in? Thanks.
Do attorneys issue and sell title insurance or simply buy it on behalf of their clients? I understand that attorneys perform title searches and make a title judgment/title assessment. I also know that they would have to hold an insurance license in the state they are located, be backed by an insurance company(i.e. be an insurance broker/rep), or have an actual insurance company, but all of these are possible to do. What is the normal situation with real estate attorneys and title insurance?
Can attorneys remove collection items from the credit report? Can attorneys remove collection items from the credit report? Is it possible to remove a collection item from a credit report in general? Has anyone done this before? Do you know anybody, a good attorney in Illinois who can handle such a case?
In the middle of divorce, who are the best family law attorneys in Los Angeles? My current attorney is utterly incompetent and causing me more pain and money then helping me in my divorce. I need a really good and aggressive attorney. Most charge for consultation and I don't have thousands to blow on just interviewing attorneys. Who are some of the best ones in the Los Angeles area? Or, what is the best way to find one?
Why is my phone being tampered with while I am calling attorneys for a civil rights action? My phone quit operating about 10 times this morning, interrupting calls to Civil Rights information services and attorneys. Other phones in the area are working. Why not mine? Most of the attorneys said I had a case. They just didn't have time to handle it. Supposedly there is too much attorney work out there and not enough attorneys. Only one hung up before he got the whole story. The rest listenned and just said it would be a long hard battle.
If I send out a survey to an email list that I compiled of 1,000 attorneys is that illegal spam? I own a company which designs software and one of our products is targeted at the legal profession. I have an email list of 1,000 attorneys that I compiled from the state bar association's records, and I would like to send out a survey to these attorneys so that I can get an idea of the viability of my product. Would this be illegal? Would this be Spam? How could I avoid breaking the law and avoid having my email filtered through spam?
Do attorneys pay off district court judges under the table? For example, Some kid gets caught driving with his liscense suspended. He hires an attorney for $2000 to represent him in his case. Then Kid and Attorney go to the pre-trial and all of the sudden the case is closed. No charge, no fine.... Now are these judges getting a cut of the attorneys fee under the table? Obviously the judge knows the attorney is making great money and wants his cut.. Is this true?
Do you know the difference between firing ALL attorneys, and just picking 8? Yes, Clinton fired all 93 attorneys. Almost every president in history has done the same. This way it avoids the conflicts Bush ran into. Clinton fired them all when he started his term. Bush only fired the 8 that were involved in investigating corrupt republicans. There is a BIG difference between the 2, and those that compare them make complete @sses of themselves when they do.
How many hours do most attorneys bill a week? i'm applying for attorney positions and at a previous interview i was asked how many hours did i bill a week. a lot of work i did at prior jobs was flat fee and so i didn't know how exactly to answer the interviewer question. i took a guess and gave him a number. i want to know from some attorneys here, how many hours do you bill for a week?
How much do civil rights attorneys make? I am Indian-American and throughout my life I have had a strong interest in fighting against discrimination that Indian-Americans and Pakistani-Americans have experienced in society and in the workplace. However, I do want to be able to live comfortably as I have heard several civil rights attorneys end up defending minorities who are unable to pay them. Although I would not mind taking up cases of minorities who are mistreated who can not pay for their services, I do still need to earn a comfortable living. So my question..how much do civil rights attorneys make?
How can people become divorce attorneys? Okay, I respect attorneys. They are necessary and they usually serve society with the best interests. But how could anyone have the drive to become a divorce attorney? How could anyone be that cold and ruthless to be the one responsible for breaking apart a family? Please, someone lend me some insight. Maybe these people aren't as heartless as I think they are.
How do I open a letter to two married attorneys? I want to write a business letter to a husband and wife who co-own a law firm. Generally, if it is a male lawyer, I will start it out: Dear Mr. Smith. I was going to use: Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith, but it just doesn't sound very professional to me. What about Dear Attorneys Smith and Smith (the name of the law firm is Smith & Smith) Also, though I've been told to always use Dear so and so as an opener in business letters, it doesn't sound professional to me. Would it be acceptable to go without the Dear?
What do I do about an attorneys office that is calling my home? My husband and I rented a clarinet for my daughter for school and we truly forgot to return it - now we have an attorneys office calling our home telling us that we have stolen equiipment! my husband explained the situation and he did not want to hear it, he threatend my husband with a bill of $639.00 and told him that we had to pay and could not return the clarinet to the company, when my husband asked for his name he refused to give it to him and hung up on him. At that point my husband called him back to try and resolve the situation and the attorneys office told him that he did not want him to pay the bill but in fact wanted him to pay by suffering with the police that would be showing up at my door to arrest him with possession of stolen property and then told my husband that he better get himself a good attorney becasue he is about to have a terrible week, and if he called his office again he was going to have him charged with harrasement. What can I do?
Are there any pro bono bankruptcy attorneys in Northern Minnesota? I need to know if there are any attorneys that can do a pro bono case for a bankruptcy. I am in a financial bind because of all of my debt and I can't afford to pay all of the fees that some attorneys ask for. So if anyone knows of any attorneys that can handle a pro bono case in either Hibbing, Grand Rapids, Virginia, or Duluth MN that would be great.
Can you change attorneys on your living will? I feel like our lawer is taking advantage of my elderly mother and adding a excess of additioal fees everytime we turn around. Is there any way to change attorneys on your living will? Can she change attorneys?
Are there programs or organizations for fathers who can't afford attorneys? I live in california, on the Central coast. I have been representing myself in a custody matter for 2 years now. I can't afford to drop 3000 dollars at once, due to child support paying her attorney, court fees and other things. So I've been representing myself. Big mistake. I know I can win this case, and it would be in the best interest of my son, but I either seem to will out the wrong forms say the wrong thing, and get stuck spending more money. So I need to get an attorney, but I can't afford one? So does anyone know of any programs that either 1, help fathers pay for attorneys,2 will hire an attorney and I do a payment plan, 3 or fights for fathers rights. I've looked over and over the internet, and I'm getting more and more confused, I've tried pre-paid legal, and well its really hasn't helped. So if anyone can help me I would appreciate it.
How much money do court appointed criminal defense attorneys make? The US Economic Census indicates that attorneys median income is $165,000 a year it also indicates that the revenue per employee in law offices is $288,000. I read an auditors report that said court appointed attorneys make less than $10.00 an hour and that, as a result most inocent people would be better off if we didn't have the right to an attorney. Also said that court appointed attorneys are an economicly disenfranchised group that need assistance. In high school I was taught that our criminal justice system was the best on earth. What is the truth? Are the people who are represented by court appointed attorneys getting real representation? Are the attorneys funded well enough to do their jobs? Do the attorneys make too much money? This is really an opinion poll. Please consider disclosing your status in your answer, ie. attorney or not attorney.
In a New York pretrial hearing, where would a murder defendant sit?--with attorneys or in a prisoner's box? I have seen pictures of murder defendants in prisoner's boxes, and am wondering if all murder defendants must remain in prisoner's boxes throughout the pretrial hearing, or whether they may sit with the defense attorneys. If in the prisoner's box, when do they get the opportunity to speak to their attorneys? Also, are these pre-trial hearings generally open to the public? And if it is not a celebrity or high-profile defendant, who normally attends other than the attorneys?
What website will allow me to chat with attorneys online for free? What website will allow me to chat with attorneys online for free?..I had some questions in regards to some legal advice. How can peopel become divorce attorneys? Criminal attorneys, tax attorneys, corporate attorneys, injury attorneys, and all the other types are cool in my book. These are all very interesting fields and if I was to be an attorney I would pick one of these. But how can someone who graduated from law school choose to work as a divorce attorney? It must be so sad dealing with all those cases. True, as a criminal attorney you may have to defend someone who you know deserves to go to jail or as an injury attorney you may have to deal with crybabies who don't really deserve the millions of dollars they are getting. But to work as a divorce attorney just seems so wrong. I mean, how could someone be the one that's helping to break apart a family? It just seems so sad and wrong to me.
Can any lawyers/attorneys out there give me your opinion? Would you hire someone with a felony record? I have a felony on my record from 5 years ago that's not violent or drug-related. I'm good at office work so I applied to attorneys for office positions. I thought they may be more open-minded to giving someone a second chance and they deal with people in need of legal help and/or criminals all the time so they wouldn't look down at the person as much as someone else might. They're not law firms, just general practice attorneys. Does anyone know if lawyers/attorneys will hire someone with a felony record? If you're going to be rude, please don't answer this question. I told my new boss today and he doesn't care. He said we all make mistakes and it's in the past. I'm good at what I do and very qualified so that's all that matters. :)
